No More Wisdom

Courtney left Canada early, but she had a good reason, she had to
have her wisdom teeth out before she started college.  Her teeth
have been hurting for awhile and when she finally got in and had
an X-ray taken, she found this.
Four wisdom teeth, two of which are growing sideways.
They have to come out, and sooner than later.
So Heather took her in, and we were a little concerned, the dentist
told her it was going to be a little tricky, and there could be
complications. So as you can imagine, we were a little nervous for her.
We went for a walk that morning and before we could even
get back home, she was done and out and on her way home.
What a blessing!  Heather took her to the store to pick up
her prescriptions and some soft goodies, then she took her
home and tucked her into bed.
This is how it all went down.
Day one,
there's almost a smile on that sweet face.
Day two,
storing some nuts for the winter?
Day three,
what a cute little, chubby, fat, face  Bless her heart, she was a real
trooper, was off the pain pills in just a few days and back to normal
by the time college started.  Ahhhh, sorry we couldn't be there for you.

Happy Birthday, To Me!

Thank you to all the wonderful people in my life that remembered me
and thought about me on my birthday, I have to admit, birthday's
are pretty lonely when you're on a mission.
Chris did take me out for a wonderful birthday dinner, I couldn't
have been more pleased, I LOVE food, so that made me very happy.
I received several cards in the mail, thank you all, but this one
had to have been written, just for me.
Wendy, you know me to a tee!
This screams my name, thank you!
Now, where's the cake and the frosting?
Lorna, my new dear and amazingly talented Canadian friend, made
me this gorgeous apron, and a beautiful card to match.
The card is her own handy work as well, she paints these
wonderful pictures, then she has them made into cards.
See, I told you she was amazing.
Ok, finally!
My cake, just like my mom used to make. This one, had oh so yummy
frosting and flowers, lots and lots of flowers.
Even though I had to tell Chris to order it, what to get and what color
I wanted the flowers to be (you have to think about these things, have
you ever tasted red frosting, yuck) they had to be yellow, it had to be
a angel food cake and it had to be from Sobey's, they make the best
frosting,  and I know my frosting.  What a great birthday, even though
I'm away from the friends and family I love.
Next year. . . partay!!!

O R E O

Yeah, double stuf is ok,
But let me show you a REAL Oreo!
Canada's known for the "world's largest", but this . . .
well this is ridiculous!
A concoction of my own.  I was making cookies n' cream
homemade ice cream and I just needed the cracker part, so I
carefully scraped off the filling and kept it until I could construct my
own super, duper gigantic Oreo.  With just enough "stuf".
Add an ice cold glass of milk, and you're all set!

Not A Buffalo

On our way home, we saw this majestic beast on the side of the road,
I spotted him and told Chris to stop, quick!
We pulled along the side of the road and had to walk back to where he stood.
Meet Mr. Bison, he just sat there.  We got close enough to slip our
cameras through the fence and take these awesome pictures.
He hardly moved a muscle, just stood there, uninterested.
Then he'd had enough, he sauntered off, scared Chris just a little.
We were close enough that when he did start to move, it startled us
and we both jumped away from the fence.
What a gorgeous specimen.

A Ukrainian Day!

Today we took a trip to the Ukraine,
or at least to a Ukrainian village.  We've passed it several times
on our way to Vegreville.
It was one of the places on our adventure pass we purchased,
so we decided to spend the day.
It was just like we stepped into another country.  There were little farm
houses, gardens full of dill (Tyler would appreciate that) and people
there to explain and share the culture with us.
Real live gardens at each of the houses, we wondered what they did
with all the food they were growing.
I loved this quilt, it really fascinated me.
After we'd been through the farm houses and walked through
the museum, we headed back to the town.
Not entirely sure what this is,
but it was next to the little church on the hill.
This is a sampling of one of their houses, there were people there
making bread and tending a fire pit outside the house.
A little grocery store, with things to buy and a girl behind the
counter, answering questions.
Sunflowers!
The little church on the hill, through the grain field.
This must be more of a Ukrainian temple.
Gas station, love those pumps!
Where you'd go to buy lumber and paint,
or catch the train.
And all seen across the marsh.
I would imagine this is the look of a typical family as they
traveled to Canada from their home land.
A map of the whole thing, we started in the front and
you can see the train station and grain barn, on the right
across the bridge over the water.
I packed us a lunch, we ate it in the car after our little
tour, it was a very interesting day.

A Day At The Zoo

Chris is taking me to the zoo today,
I am so excited.
Welcome to the Edmonton Valley Zoo.
It's rather small right now, but they are adding several new attractions.
All the blue and grey area on the map is being added, it will practically
double the size of the zoo.
You can call me "flower",
and don't wake pokey.
"what are you lookin' at?"
what's over there?
let sleeping elephant's lie?
Lions and tigers and bears,
oh my!
We had a wonderful day at the zoo, it was beautiful weather,
not too crowded and we got to spend some quiet time together.
